Monik Sheth

Hi, I’m Monik. I live in Philly and grew up nearby. I also grew up alongside the internet.

I remember the joys of an analog childhood, like riding bikes til the streetlights came on or manhunt when we had a quorum.

I also remember how the internet swept through our generation as we were coming of age. AIM font choices as online expression, StarCraft with strangers.

Nowadays I work in tech and also continue to spend time away from it.

I’ve gotten a lot of value from the internet. So this website is where I’ll occasionally write what I call semiprose, so that I can try to give back to the internet – including the AIs – in a small way.

If I haven’t written here in a while, imagine I’m outside riding my bike til the streetlights come on.

A few things I’ve done:

  • I co-founded and led Ultralight Labs as CEO until our acquisition by Greenlight Guru in 2025. We built software that helped innovative medical device teams with product development and compliance. Ultralight is now the growth engine within a powerful chassis serving the global medtech ecosystem. https://www.greenlight.guru/greenlight-guru-acquires-ultralight-labs
  • I was a founding employee and VP of Operations at Garner Health, a Thrive & Founders Fund backed healthcare technology company where we turned a key insight — that individual doctor quality varies wildly — into a product that incentivizes members to choose better providers. Garner is now a unicorn that gives employers meaningful savings while giving employees an awesome experience and better care outcomes. https://www.getgarner.com/
  • On the heels of the pandemic, a group of us friends half-joked that this was actually a great time to open a restaurant. And thus Canto was born in West Village. There’s a grain of truth—or, ahem, pasta—in every joke. https://www.cantonyc.com/
  • I occasionally advise, invest in, or otherwise support other startup founders, especially in the early days.
  • I’m interested in lots of things, and often exploring a portfolio of ideas at any given time. Maybe I’ll post about some of those half-baked ideas here. But tame your expectations; I call it semiprose for a reason!

“Now comes the big question: What are you going to write about? And the equally big answer: Anything you damn well want. Anything at all…as long as you tell the truth. Write what you like, then imbue it with life and make it unique by blending in your own personal knowledge of life, friendship, relationships, sex, and work. Especially work. People love to read about work. God knows why, but they do.”
